How much is a cedar fence for an Orleans side yard?

Cedar fence installation in Orleans runs about $45 to $85 per linear foot, installed, based on published 2025–26 Ontario installer pricing. That range covers materials and labour, before gates, removal and other extras.

What moves the price within that range: the height you choose, the style (privacy boards, picket, board-on-board), the number and size of gates, whether an old fence needs to come out first, and how the posts are set. Removal and disposal of an old fence adds roughly $5 to $15 per linear foot, more if the posts are set in concrete. A walk gate is priced separately, around $500 to $1,500; a driveway gate, around $800 to $2,200.

A few Orleans-specific things to sort out before the work starts. Height is measured from the grade at the base of the fence on whichever side the ground is higher; a berm does not raise the limit. If your lot is on a corner, confirm the layout with the City before the installer marks anything out.

Cedar is excepted from the Fence By-law's coating requirement, so no paint or preservative is required by the by-law. The finished side of the fence must face the street and neighbouring properties (s.15).

A fair written quote for a cedar side-yard fence should break out the fence run, gate pricing, post method, and removal of any existing fence. The form on this page forwards your details to fence installers listed in the Ottawa Construction Network directory.

Before you commit, ask the installer to write the post method and the depth the quote assumes on the quote itself.
