Find a Fence InstallerAbout Vinyl Fences
Vinyl (PVC) fences come as privacy panels, semi-privacy styles and pickets. Like any fence in Ottawa, a vinyl fence is limited by the City's Fence By-law: 1 m in a front yard and 213 cm in a side or rear yard on residential property, measured from the grade at the base.
Two visibility triangles cap fence height at 75 cm. On a corner lot, the by-law's triangle runs 3 m along each lot line from the corner. On every lot, a second triangle runs 2 m along the lot line and the driveway where they meet at the street. The City's zoning by-laws add a larger 6 m triangle on residential corner lots where solid obstructions are limited to 0.75 m, though a see-through fence is not counted as an obstruction there. A solid vinyl privacy panel is not see-through, so corner lots need a check with the City before the layout is fixed.
No fence may sit on City property, including the road allowance, which can be wider than the strip you mow. The City's geoOttawa map shows approximate lines; an Ontario Land Surveyor marks the exact ones.
Published Ontario installer pages put vinyl fences at about $45 to $90 per linear foot installed, with premium styles above that. Ask which style and post spacing the price assumes.
