What goes into the price of a chain link fence in Gloucester?

Published 2025–26 Ontario installer pricing puts coated chain link at roughly $15 to $50 per linear foot, installed, with coating adding a few dollars per foot to the lower end of that spread. The spread is wide, so it helps to know what to ask for before you get a quote.

The gauge of the wire and the mesh opening size both affect the material cost, and so does the height of the fence. Ask what height the quote assumes. Post spacing, the number of corner and end posts, and whether the ground is level or slopes across the run all change the amount of work involved. Each gate is priced separately from the fence itself: a pedestrian gate runs about $500 to $1,500 and a driveway gate about $800 to $2,200, on top of the per-foot fence price.

Under the City of Ottawa Fence By-law, No. 2003-462, as published on ottawa.ca, every chain link fence on residential property must be vinyl or powder coated. The finished side of the fence must face the public street and any neighbouring properties. If you are replacing an old fence, removal and disposal adds roughly $5 to $15 per linear foot, and posts set in concrete cost more to pull.

When you have two written quotes in front of you, set them side by side and check that each one specifies the same height and coating type, covers the same linear footage, describes the post method and depth, lists every gate as its own line item, and spells out what removal and disposal of the old fence will cost.
